Tuckwell Open-Air Theatre Festival 2025: CFS 80th Anniversary – O Brother, Where Art Thou?
Cheltenham Film Society, would like you all to join us in celebrating our 80th anniversary at the Tuckwell Amphitheatre, with one of the greatest Coen brothers’ movies, ‘O Brother, Where Art Thou?’, a semi-satirical, semi-historical, completely brilliant comedy, with a mesmerising soundtrack.
Set in rural Mississippi in 1937, it follows three escaped convicts searching for hidden treasure while a sheriff relentlessly pursues them. Its story incorporates social features of the American South and is loosely based on Homer’s epic Greek poem The Odyssey.

Our annual programme includes subtitled and independent films, screened between September and April at the Bacon Theatre. The object of the society is to give the residents of Cheltenham and surrounding towns and villages the opportunity to see a diverse range of the best of international and independent cinema and gems that have been overlooked by the Cinemas in the town.
